Faculty and staff get creative in their efforts to recognize students

Above left, a special graphic to cheer on graduates from the Career Development and Experiential Learning team.  At right Dr. Anne Hermans, Program Coordinator of the Veterinary Technology program, shared a photo from a “Gradzoomation” event she held with her students.  “We had completely unofficial class awards for each student that I mailed out to them, and an interactive game,” Professor Hermans said. The online gathering provided celebratory spirit for all involved. Professor Hermans also added it was, “the first time I’ve worn graduation regalia with fuzzy slippers.”

NCC Instructors Grateful for Foundation’s Emergency Student Aid

We have heard firsthand from NCC professors about the transition to online learning and the impact of Foundation contributions on the lives of their students.

“I teach anatomy and physiology and I had students who, after the classes moved online, were taking the class on their cell phones,” Jonathan McMenamin-Balano, NCC Biology Professor and Honors Program Coordinator told us. “They were able to get laptops from the Foundation and successfully complete the class.  If the Foundation hadn’t stepped in, the students wouldn’t have been able to.”

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Mobin Rastgar Agah, Engineering Department

Asked what attracted him to teaching at NCC, Dr. Mobin Rastgar Agah says, “I truly believe we provide opportunities for students here.” As the engineering coordinator and an associate professor of engineering at NCC, he has observed that even though some students may have encountered daunting obstacles or experienced setbacks prior to coming to NCC that “changed their path in life, it doesn’t mean that they don’t have the potential to be successful.”
